Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 January 2015 launched the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign at Panipat in Haryana.
Highlights of the Campaign
The campaign aims to improve the child sex ratio (CSR) and promote empowerment of girl child through education.The Prime Minister also launched the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, a small saving instrument for girl child and also distributed the first five account documents to five children aged under 10On this occasion the Prime Minister also released ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ commemorative postage stamps, brought out by India PostPrime Minister made a stirring appeal to put an end to gender discrimination and said “Beta Beti Ek Samaan...this should be our Mantra”.Narendra Modi, also flagged off ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ audio-visual vans of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. These vans will travel in the 100 critical districts of India, to create awareness where the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign is being implemented.Village sarpanchs have also been asked to keep a check on the growing cases of female foeticide.
